DATE: Wednesday 30 August, 1995
PLACE: Tully Cross, Renvyle Peninsular
WEATHER: Warm and partly cloudy
REMARKS: The morning is spent pottering until we go to visit
Mary Keane, another King relation, at Maam Bridge. She is
a charming, warm, intelligent woman with good business sense
(she owns and runs the pub, tearooms, and general store) and
a good grasp of Irish history. Clearly well-read, she has
done some interesting research and knows a lot not only about
the family but also her own area of Maam and the building
which is now her pub.
Her generosity is on a par with Mary King's, and we come
away not only better informed, but also well-fed (we had only
stopped for a cup of tea and a chat!) and with chocolates,
scones, and money for the girls to spend on themselves.
On the return we stop at the local cemetery and locate graves
of significance to Desiree.
