PLACE: San Francisco

WEATHER: Hot

San Francisco

REMARKS: Jayne and Charlotte wake very early and are eager for breakfast; their clocks are way out!

Spirits are the better for a sleep, and an American-style hearty breakfast.

We are collected for a city tour by coach. This is to be a lovely 3.5 hours. We have a pleasant, informative guide with good knowledge and a smooth patter - a real SF-lover.

We pass through a variety of communities / districts with differing characteristics. A brief stop at the original mission - which is lovely and very Spanish; a refreshing change after the Italian and French religious sites we've seen. The day is quite clear and the view from the heights overlooking the city and the Bridge is impressive.

We finish the tour at Fisherman's Wharf; have a late lunch, buy-shirts, a new suitcase and catch the shuttle back to the hotel.

We have spotted a bookshop, so we go in search of Sarah's long-promised Sweet Valley books, before dining in another hotel. The servings are huge and the kids struggle.
