DATE: Friday 25 August, 1995
PLACE: Ballycastle
WEATHER: Wet
REMARKS: A gentle morning to match the pace of our day.
Various preparations are made. The service is in the 'Croi'
(pronounced 'cree') at Corrymeela, a lovely stone structure
on a hill overlooking the coast towards Rathlin Island. The
service is a relaxed and happy occasion, ecumenical, but,
to me, surprisingly religious. Sarah manages despite her nerves,
and lack of familiarity with the guitarist, to get through
her verse.
Kirsten has made decorated stones for all the guests which
the girls hand out at the end - a lovely touch.
We then mark time until the reception in a small coastal
pub at Ballintoy where we chat with the Kings from Connemara
- like us somewhat out of place. There are some lovely touches
- especially the speech by Diane, the 'best woman', and a
song composed by the 'best man'. The friends disco the night
away.
