DATE: Wednesday 16 August, 1995
PLACE: Derculich Farm, Strathtay
WEATHER: Warm
REMARKS: A busy day, albeit begun late.
First up - Blair Atholl Castle. A beautiful 'white icing'
structure which is markedly plain outside - clearly a castle
rather than a Palace. Inside is a museum of lairdly possessions.
What strikes me is the vast array of beautifully ornamented
weaponry, artfully displayed, and the number of portraits,
including a number of European, especially German, royalty.
One of the most impressive collections of artifacts we've
seen.
Next is the Breadalbane Folk Museum at Killin. An old mill
in a lovely setting by the Dochart Falls, this has a pleasant
emphasis on fairies and the mystics. Good text displays, but
somewhat unsuited for kids.
A back-country route takes us to Perth where the girls have
the chance to bum off some energy at a pool complex (another'
leisure centre'). Late home again but everyone's in good spirits.
