DATE: Saturday 12 August, 1995
PLACE: Windemere to Pitlochry
WEATHER: Wet & cooler
REMARKS: A damp day - the first of the holiday! Unfortunately
it is also humid. We find the Beatrix Potter Story attraction,
which has delightful tableaux of models of the characters,
many at child height and size. We meander around the Lake
which is pretty, not as dramatic as Switzerland or Como, and
beautifully wooded.
Next stop is Ambleside and Dove cottage - Wordsworth's home.
Again, a lovely stone cottage in well-established trees.
We try Keswick, but have missed Hilltop -should have turned
at Ambleside.
Onward! We find the village of Sorn by leaving the Motorway.
It looks to be a dormitory village and mainly new. There is
a Bryson on a farm nearby, and one headstone in the Church
graveyard. The Minister's name and address: Reverend George
Chalmers, 'The Manse', Sorn Road, Catrine, ph 553057.
I'll try to write.
Cherry Tree cottage here we come.
