DATE: Sunday 6 August, 1995
PLACE: London
WEATHER: Warm
REMARKS: We re-pack and load the car.
First stop: Madame Tussauds. What a crowd! A queue of Disneyland
proportions which takes 1.5 hours to complete. Inside, the
models are fascinating - a game of recognise the individuals.
Many are in positions which suddenly are right beside you.
Some (Bob Geldorf; Ringo Starr) I almost expect to start talking
to me. There's even a .Spirit of London' ride which is noisy
but gentle.
Almost 1.5 hours inside fly by.
Off to Kew Gardens. Park by the Thames and in a back gate.
Through the Palace and the Conservatory with its giant lilies,
the Palm House, where Jayne cries off because of the heat
(sensible girl!), the Rose garden (have seen better) and down,
eventually, to Queen Charlotte's Cottage.
We're too late to get in but take photos outside.
We leave approx 1815 (after dodging squirrels in the carpark)
and drive to Reading.
Dave's directions are accurate and we settle into a pleasant
country evening.
